Alcoa Agrees to $5.6 Billion South32 Acquisition; U.S. and Kazakhstan Sign Tungsten Access Deal

Alcoa Corp. has entered into an agreement to acquire a portfolio of assets from South32 Ltd. The transaction encompasses industrial operations specifically involving bauxite, alumina, and aluminum assets. These assets are geographically distributed across three distinct regions: Australia, Brazil, and South Africa.

According to reports from Bloomberg and The New York Times, the financial valuation of this acquisition deal is set at as much as $5.6 billion.

In a separate development regarding international resource allocation, an agreement has been executed between the United States government and Kazakhstan. This arrangement provides American investors who maintain ties to the president and commerce secretary with access to mineral deposits within Kazakhstan.

Bloomberg and The New York Times report that these specific reserves contain tungsten and are characterized as one of the largest untapped supplies globally.
