At least 164 killed as twin earthquakes strike Venezuela west of Caracas

CARACAS — Two earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 struck Venezuela west of Caracas on Wednesday. The second earthquake occurred less than a minute after the first. At least 164 people have died, 1,000 were injured, and hundreds remain missing following the quakes. Rescue operations are focused on La Guaira and Caracas’s Altamira area due to collapsed buildings. The United States is dispatching search-and-rescue teams to assist with relief efforts.
